What thin skin actually is

Where lace breathes through an open weave, skin is a solid membrane, which is why the scalp underneath reads as skin rather than as fabric.
The word thin is doing real work. Skin bases are measured in fractions of a millimetre, and the thinner the film, the more convincingly it disappears at the edges. Why the scalp looks real
Two things sell it. First, the polyurethane is close to translucent, so it takes on the tone of your own scalp underneath rather than sitting on top as a separate colour. Second, the hair on a well made skin unit is injected at an angle, which means it lifts and falls the way real hair does instead of standing straight up out of a knot.
The result is a parting you can actually part. You can move the hair, expose the base, and it still looks like scalp with hair growing from it. That is the single hardest illusion to pull off in this craft, and skin does it better than any other material we work with.
How it feels day to day
Skin feels smooth and slightly closed compared with lace. Because it is a solid film, it holds heat more than an open weave does, which is worth being honest about if you run hot or work outdoors. Most men adjust to it quickly and stop noticing, but it is a real difference rather than a marketing detail.
On the plus side, skin is forgiving to touch and to sleep on. There is no lace to catch or fray at the edge, and running your hand back through it feels like a continuous surface rather than a seam.

Cleaning and upkeep
Skin is the easiest base to keep clean, which is one of its quiet advantages. Adhesive comes off a smooth polyurethane surface far more readily than it comes out of lace, so removal and cleaning at a maintenance visit is straightforward and gentle on the unit.
At home the routine is simple. Skin does not like harsh solvents or aggressive scrubbing at the edges, because that is exactly where the film is thinnest and most vulnerable. Dry it properly, be careful at the perimeter, and use the products we give you rather than whatever is under the sink.
Who thin skin suits
Skin is the right call if your priority is an invisible scalp and parting and you are comfortable trading some lifespan for it. It suits men who want to wear their hair shorter or off the face, where the front edge and the part are on show and have to hold up in daylight and in photos.
