Compare your options

Every hair replacement option, compared honestly.

Men facing hair loss have six real paths: a hair system, a hair transplant, scalp micropigmentation, medication, shaving it off, or doing nothing. The fastest way to full, natural looking coverage at any stage of loss is a hair system, because it gives you a complete head of hair the same day and is fully reversible. A transplant uses your own follicles and is permanent, but it grows in slowly over months and needs enough donor hair to work. The right choice depends on how quickly you want results, whether you want something reversible, and how much upkeep you are willing to take on. Below we lay all six out side by side, including where a hair system is not the answer.

The six options at a glance

Almost every route a man considers falls into one of six buckets. They are not really competitors so much as different trades. Some give you results today and ask for upkeep in return. Some ask for patience up front and less maintenance later. One is permanent and one is free. Understanding what each one actually trades is more useful than asking which is best, because best only means anything once you know what you personally want out of it.

Here is the honest side by side. Read the columns that matter most to you first. If you want coverage now, look at coverage timeline. If the idea of a permanent decision worries you, look at reversibility. If your calendar and your patience are the real constraint, look at commitment and upkeep.

Six ways men address hair loss, compared on the factors that actually drive the decision.

Where a hair system fits

A hair system is a custom made unit of real or synthetic hair on a thin, near invisible base that bonds to your scalp. Because it sits on top rather than growing in, it works at any stage of loss and gives you a full, styled head of hair the day it goes on. There is no waiting, no donor requirement, and nothing about it is permanent. If you decide it is not for you, it comes off and you are exactly where you started.

That combination is what makes it the option most men have never seriously considered but end up choosing. It covers a receding hairline, a thinning crown, or complete loss with equal ease, and it looks the way you want from day one. The trade is honest and worth stating plainly: a hair system is a routine, not a one time fix. It asks for regular reattachment and cleaning, and the unit is renewed on a cycle. Men who want their result now and are fine with a standing maintenance rhythm tend to be the happiest in our chair.

An honest word on transplants

We fit hair systems, so treat this as a starting point rather than the final word, and take any surgical decision to a qualified physician. That said, we will not pretend a transplant is never the right call. Its real advantage is genuine: it moves your own follicles, so once they grow in you have your own hair with essentially no daily upkeep. For the right candidate, that is a strong outcome and we say so.

The honest limits are just as real. A transplant is permanent, so there is no undo if the result or the ongoing pattern of loss is not what you hoped. It depends on having enough healthy donor hair, which not every man has, and it does nothing to stop the hair around the graft from thinning later. Coverage arrives slowly over months, not on the day of surgery. Many men are simply not candidates, and many who are still prefer results today and something they can reverse. The two are not enemies. Some of the men we fit come to us after a transplant to add density the surgery could not reach.

SMP, medication, shaving, and doing nothing

Scalp micropigmentation tattoos tiny dots of pigment onto the scalp to mimic the look of closely shaved stubble. It is a genuinely good option if the look you want is a clean buzzed or shaved head, and it pairs well with a hair system for some men. What it cannot give you is length or the feel of hair, because there is no hair, only the illusion of it on skin. Compare the two in depth on our hair system versus SMP page.

Medication is the prescription route some men use to try to hold onto the hair they still have. Whether it helps, and by how much, varies from person to person, and it is a decision that belongs with your physician rather than with us. It asks for daily, indefinite use, and any effect reverses once you stop. We frame it as a possible way to protect existing hair, never as a cure or a regrowth guarantee.

Shaving it all off is the most underrated option on this list. It costs nothing, it is completely reversible, and for a man who is comfortable bald it removes the problem entirely. The only upkeep is frequent shaving. Doing nothing is a legitimate choice too. If the loss does not bother you, there is nothing to fix. Plenty of men land here for a while, then revisit the question later, and that is fine.

How we help you decide in our chair

We do not push every man toward a hair system. The first thing we do at a consultation is figure out what you actually want, because the right option falls out of your answers, not out of a sales pitch. If you want a full head of styled hair today and you are fine with a maintenance routine, a system is hard to beat. If you have strong donor hair, real patience, and you want your own follicles with no ongoing routine, we will tell you a transplant consultation is worth your time. If a shaved look suits you, SMP or a razor may be all you need.

What we bring is an honest read of your scalp, your hair, your loss pattern, and your life, given in two real studios in Peoria, Arizona and Eighty Four, Pennsylvania. Nico, Ivette, and Denisse have had this conversation with a lot of men, and it is always the same starting point: what do you want your hair to do for you. Come in, tell us, and we will lay out the honest path, including when that path is not us.

Real work

This is what it looks like.

Questions, answered.

What is the best non surgical hair replacement option?

For most men who want full coverage without surgery, a hair system is the strongest non surgical option, because it delivers a complete head of hair the same day, works at any stage of loss, and is fully reversible. SMP suits men who want a shaved look rather than length, and medication is a physician led route aimed at holding onto existing hair, not adding coverage.

Hair system or hair transplant, which should I choose?

Choose a hair system if you want results now, want something reversible, or do not have enough donor hair for a transplant. Consider a transplant if you have strong donor hair, are patient enough to wait months for it to grow in, and want your own follicles with little ongoing upkeep. A transplant is permanent, while a system can come off any time.

Which option gives the fastest results?

A hair system gives you full coverage the same day it is fitted, and shaving is immediate. A transplant grows in gradually over several months, SMP takes a few sessions across a few weeks, and medication is judged over months with results that vary from person to person.

Can I combine more than one option?

Yes. Some men wear a hair system after a transplant to add density the surgery could not reach, and SMP can complement a system for certain looks. Medication is a separate physician led decision about existing hair. We will tell you honestly at a consultation whether combining anything makes sense for you.

How much do these options cost?

Cost depends heavily on the option and, for a hair system, on the specifics of your unit and your maintenance schedule. Rather than quote a figure that would not fit your situation, we work it out with you at consultation. Our cost pages walk through the drivers so there are no surprises.
